Guide / Fabricate Desktop

Put your AI at the workbench.

Connect a compatible AI client to Fabricate Desktop’s local MCP server to create and edit parts, assemblies, and drawings.

Start with Fabricate Desktop and a compatible AI client on the same computer. No CuttingEdge integration is needed.

01 / Explore

01. Enable the server

In Fabricate Desktop, open Settings → Advanced → MCP server and choose Enable. Note the local endpoint shown by the app; it normally uses port 7331, but may choose another available port.

02 / Explore

02. Create a token

Create a named token in the same settings panel. The secret is shown once. Keep it private; revoke it from Fabricate when you no longer want that client to have access.

03 / Explore

03. Copy your client’s configuration

Choose Claude Code, Cursor, or Claude Desktop in the setup panel and copy the generated configuration. Follow the client’s setup instructions. Claude Desktop uses the local bridge configuration supplied by Fabricate.

04. Open a design and start creating

Open a design in Fabricate, then connect or reconnect your AI client. Ask it to inspect the design or create a part. You can watch the changes, inspect the feature tree, and take over manually.

# Claude Code example — use the endpoint and token shown by Fabricate
claude mcp add --transport http fabricate http://127.0.0.1:<port>/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>"
